There's no better time than January to review our typography and update our designs for 2024. There are a lot of vintage, retro, and revival typefaces on this month's list of the most significant new fonts. Is 2024 going to be a retro year, or were these designs just made at the end of 2023, and we will be able to see the trends for 2024 in February and March? Time will tell.

Here are the fonts that drew our attention in January while you wait. Have fun!

BD Orange

The grotesque typeface BD Orange has a vintage sci-fi vibe and resembles a script. It has many options, various ligatures, and varied weights ranging from Thin to Loud Black. If you want a clean, clear, and classic logo, this is a great option.

Grotesk protest

Another retro-feeling grotesque typeface, Protest Grotesk, takes its cues from built letterforms from the early 20th century. It is available as a changeable typeface with corresponding italics in a range of weights from Thin to Black. It's a fantastic choice for a business typeface.

Hypercube

Hypercube is a retro sans-serif that draws inspiration from office aesthetics of the 1990s and 2000s, and mid-century Swiss modernism. It is not grotesque like previous examples. It captures the feel of the early web days and the turn of the millennium, yet it functions better on screen than typefaces from that era.

Baram

Baram is a distinctive typeface whose wave-like letter construction conveys a sense of fluidity and impermanence. A few years ago, it would have been a gift to the glitch aesthetic. When creating a logo conveying speed, it would be an excellent place to start.

SFT Schrifted Serif

SFT Schrifted Serif is a lovely serif font with delicate details and soft curves. It is available in three optical sizes: Text for body text, Display for headers, and Subhead for smaller headlines. The Stockholm neighborhoods of Gamla Stan and Södermalm inspired it. Although it's not yet complete, the beta version is available for download.

Palacio

Palacio is a neat brush script that can create a cosy, intimate atmosphere in place of writing. You can customize the shapes to fit your content by including the many other characters and optional ligatures. It's a fantastic option for a logotype that is looser.

Afronaut Pro

Afronaut Pro was influenced by Zambia's long-gone space program as well as a combination of Arabic and Latin typeface. It combines calligraphic shapes that flow with plain geometric sans. Six weights are offered, ranging from Ultra-Light to Bold, and a customizable typeface is also available.

Champion

Champion is a contemporary resurgence of the slab serif fonts commonly found on sports apparel. The angular shapes are bold, simple, and nearly (but not quite) monospaced; editorial design benefits greatly from the utilitarian style. Champion, Champion Condensed, Champion Sans, and Champion Sans Condensed are the four versions.

Giliant

A fresh choice for fans of the Art Nouveau style is Giliant. It's a sophisticated display serif with intricate elements and a sharp contrast. Although there is only one weight available, it is ideal for projects involving editorial or brand design that convey luxury and desirability.

Octave

French Old Style designs are revived with the serif typeface Octave. It's perfect for text that describes music because it has several uncommon musical emojis and symbols. It's a good upgrade for anyone wishing to update documents that are already using Times because of its open counters and consistent rhythm, which make it highly readable.

Art Company Mono

Art Company Mono is a monospaced serif that is quite attractive. Although its original function was presentation, it is suitable for tabular data because of its ability to preserve legibility at small sizes and its monospacing. There are currently four weights—Thin, Bold, and Bold—along with their corresponding italics.

Super Ground

Super Ground is a great display font that makes text with varying widths and rhythms easy to generate by extending the width of characters using lowercase letters. It begs to be utilized in editorial design and is perfect for sifting through dynamic photos.

Rossela

Rossela is a sophisticated serif with dimensions that are traditional. It has many eye-catching ligatures, including the visually appealing RO and KO ligatures, and is perfectly suited for displaying text. It is formal as well as modern. One weight and one italic are present.

Sittl Pro

The geometric sans Sittl Pro has rounded corners. It has a subdued retro vibe and is perfect for signage and logo design. Italics are included for each of the four weights, which range from Regular to Black.

Teenage Tropics

Teenage Tropics is a display face that subtly combines retro design elements with a tropical theme, drawing inspiration from the 1960s. It's just what we need to warm up January with ripples that mimic sunlight on water.
